An aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew
members on Friday made an emergency landing at the Murtala Mohammed
International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, after developing a technical fault while
airborne in Nigerian airspace.
The incident was confirmed in a statement by the
Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA),
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
According to the statement, LASEMA received a distress
alert through its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines, prompting the immediate
deployment of its response team to the airport.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the LASEMA Response Team
confirmed that the passenger aircraft was in distress,” the agency said.
The pilot successfully executed a safe emergency
landing on the MMIA runway, with LASEMA officials and other emergency
responders on high alert and standing by throughout the operation.
The statement noted that a coordinated multi-agency
response was activated, and following safety checks by the pilot and
engineering crew, the aircraft was moved to the apron for detailed inspection
and necessary repairs.
“All passengers were safely evacuated. No injuries or
loss of life were recorded,” LASEMA said.
Despite the technical fault and forced landing, the
agency confirmed that the aircraft did not sustain any significant damage.
“The aircraft has been secured on the apron, and
recovery operations have been completed,” the statement added.
