Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has completed a
permanent move to Bundesliga club Hamburger SV from French side OGC Nice.
The 27-year-old Nigeria international has signed a
three-year contract that will keep him at Hamburg until 2029 and will wear the
club’s No. 9 shirt.
Moffi becomes Hamburg’s seventh signing of the summer
as the club prepares for its return to the Bundesliga.
Reports indicate that Hamburg will pay Nice an initial
€2 million transfer fee, with a further €500,000 available in potential
add-ons, taking the total value of the deal to €2.5 million.
The transfer brings an end to Moffi’s more than
three-year stay in France. Nice signed the Nigerian from Lorient in 2023 for a
fee reportedly exceeding €20 million.
During his time at Nice, Moffi scored 24 goals in 72
appearances across competitions.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at
Portuguese giants FC Porto, scoring twice in 15 appearances. He also featured
in seven Europa League matches for Nice and Porto, scoring against VfB
Stuttgart during Porto’s 4-1 aggregate victory in the round of 16.
The move to Germany offers Moffi an opportunity to
revive his club career following a challenging spell at Nice.
Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa praised the
Nigerian forward, highlighting his physical strength, determination and ability
to make life difficult for opposing defenders.
Moffi is expected to operate primarily as a central
striker, with Hamburg hoping to benefit from his movement, physical presence
and ability to hold up play.
His arrival comes after the departure of Robert
Glatzel, who joined VfL Wolfsburg in June following five seasons with Hamburg.
The club had already added Zambia international Patson
Daka on a free transfer in July, and Moffi will now provide coach Merlin Polzin
with another option in attack.
Hamburg’s board member for sport, Kathleen Krüger,
said Moffi would bring additional depth, flexibility and international
experience to the squad while also providing valuable experience for younger
players.
Moffi has played professionally in six countries
before moving to Germany, making the Bundesliga the seventh country of his
career. He has recorded 88 goals and 13 assists in 228 competitive club
appearances.
His first competitive appearance for Hamburg could
come in the DFB-Pokal against Verl before the club begins its Bundesliga
campaign away to Borussia Dortmund.
The transfer gives Moffi a fresh opportunity to
establish himself in Germany and reignite his goalscoring form at both club and
international level.
