Suspected terrorists have killed a member of the
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and three other individuals in a fresh
attack along the Jikamshi–Funtua road in Katsina State.
Reports indicate that the victims were ambushed by
armed bandits on Monday evening, May 4, 2026, while travelling along the
highway, which has become known for recurring security threats.
The deceased corps member, identified as Saidu Nasir,
was said to be en route to complete his monthly NYSC biometric verification
(“thumbprint”) when the attackers struck. Another victim, Saidu Liman,
popularly known as Kalipha, was also among those killed.
All four victims reportedly died on the spot after
being shot during the ambush, with Nasir’s body later returned to his family
bearing gunshot wounds.
Security analyst Bakatsine, who confirmed the
incident, described the slain corps member as a dedicated young man committed
to his education and national service. He noted that the attack highlights the
worsening insecurity affecting civilians across parts of northern Nigeria.
The incident has left families, friends, and
colleagues in deep mourning, while renewed calls are being made for stronger
security measures along vulnerable highways in the region.
