Chuba Akpom is set to join Ipswich Town on a permanent
deal from Ajax, following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.
The transfer will officially take effect on July 1,
2026, after a mandatory £7 million clause (around €8 million) in his loan
agreement was activated when Ipswich secured promotion.
Akpom, 30, has agreed to a three-year contract that
will keep him at Portman Road until 2029.
During the 2025/26 season on loan, Akpom made 31
appearances in all competitions, mostly coming off the bench. He scored twice,
including a key goal in a 3-0 win over Oxford United on New Year’s Day and
another against Hull City.
Ipswich confirmed their return to the top flight on
May 2, 2026, after a 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, finishing second in
the Championship with 84 points.
Akpom initially joined Ipswich on loan in August 2025,
turning down a permanent move to Birmingham City in order to pursue Premier
League football.
Before his time in England, the former Arsenal striker
featured 68 times for Ajax, scoring 23 goals.
His permanent signing is part of Ipswich’s wider
recruitment plan for their Premier League return, which also includes
activating a €2.5 million clause for defender Cedric Kipré from Reims.
