President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a new list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation. The list includes several high-profile political figures, ex-governors, former ministers, former lawmakers, and past top government officials.

Non-Career Ambassadors (Political Appointees):

  • Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi – Former Governor of Enugu State
  • Mahmood Yakubu – Immediate Past INEC Chairman
  • Femi Fani-Kayode – Former Minister
  • Reno Omokri – Former Presidential Aide
  • Okezie Ikpeazu – Former Governor of Abia State
  • Femi Pedro – Former Lagos Deputy Governor

Posting Expectations

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the nominees would be posted to countries with key strategic ties to Nigeria, including:

  • China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, and
  • Permanent Missions: UN, UNESCO, African Union

Their specific postings will be determined after Senate confirmation.

This latest list follows a smaller batch sent earlier containing:

  • Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa)
  • Retired Col. Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun)

These three are being considered for postings to major diplomatic hubs like the UK, USA or France.
