It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss
that tributes pour in for Hon. Charles Idahosa, fondly known as Charlie
Tempo, who passed away on Saturday, December 20. With his passing, Edo
State has lost a towering political figure and one of its most respected voices
in public communication.
Hon. Idahosa served the state with distinction as
Commissioner for Information and later as Special Adviser on Political Affairs
to the Edo State Government. He was a consummate politician—seasoned, grounded
and firmly rooted in the grassroots. To him, power was not merely authority but
service, and politics was not about noise, but responsibility.
Endowed with rare institutional memory that spanned
both military and civilian administrations, Charlie Tempo was a living
chronicle of Edo State’s political journey. His counsel was always enriched by
history, context and wisdom—providing clarity in moments of uncertainty and
balance during periods of transition.
Beyond the offices he held, Hon. Idahosa was known for
his warmth, jovial spirit and deep humanity. He related effortlessly with
people across social and political divides, earning respect not through force,
but through character. Allies and opponents alike acknowledged him as a man of
loyalty, balance and exceptional political intelligence.
For those who followed in his footsteps, including
former occupants of the Information and Communication portfolio, he was more
than a predecessor. He was a reference point and a benchmark of professionalism
in public communication, whose legacy in that office remains firmly intact.
Edo State will remember Charlie Tempo as a man who
gave his all, spoke truth with courage, laughed freely and served faithfully.
His absence will be deeply felt, but his impact will continue to resonate
through the institutions he strengthened and the lives he touched.
May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his
family, friends and the people of Edo State find comfort in the rich life he
lived and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
