Troops Rescue Wife of Retired General, Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers in Abuja

Nigerian Army troops have rescued the wife of a retired general who was abducted in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and arrested two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate.

Following the abduction, troops from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison launched a coordinated operation to track the kidnappers and secure the victim’s safe release.

Acting on credible intelligence, the soldiers advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis, where they made contact with the suspects.

The kidnappers, reportedly overwhelmed by the troops’ swift response and superior firepower, abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes. The woman was subsequently rescued at Angwan Sabo Village.

The military then intensified its pursuit along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, while additional personnel were deployed to block possible escape routes.

In a follow-up operation on September 2, 2026, troops intercepted two suspected members of the kidnapping gang near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council.

The operation also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, one magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

The Army said clearance and tracking operations were still ongoing in the area as troops continued efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

It commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation, assuring the public that it remained committed to protecting lives and property.

The Army added that, in collaboration with other security agencies, it would sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and improving security across the FCT and neighbouring areas.
