Donald Trump has said he will not be attending the
wedding of his son, Donald Trump Jr., to Bettina Anderson this weekend.
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, May 22, Trump
said he would be staying in Washington, D.C. at the White House, citing
government responsibilities. He said he wanted to be with his son but that
“circumstances pertaining to Government” and his “love for the United States of
America” mean he cannot travel.
Trump added: “I feel it is important for me to remain
in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time.
Congratulations to Don and Bettina!”
The wedding is reportedly taking place in the Bahamas.
Earlier, on Thursday, May 21, Trump told journalists
he might not attend because of the situation involving Iran and other concerns.
He suggested the timing could be dangerous either way, saying that attending
could put him at risk and that not attending would also draw criticism from
what he called “fake news.”
On Friday, May 22, Trump did not mention specific
issues, such as the war, in his explanation. His updated schedule for Saturday
and Sunday lists only “executive time” at the White House.
The wedding will be Don Jr.’s second marriage. He has
five children with his first wife, Vanessa, whom he divorced in 2018 during
Trump’s first term in office.
