Two people have been confirmed dead following an attack by suspected gunmen in Oriuzor community, located in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The Ebonyi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday through its spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Joshua Ukandu, who told Channels Television that the attack occurred on Saturday night, November 1, 2025.

According to Ukandu, the victims were identified as Ifeanyi Ogele, a local barber who was shot dead inside his shop, and Obumneme Nweke, a commercial tricycle operator (popularly known as a Keke rider), who was killed a short distance away from the same location.

He added that the police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

“For now, no arrest has been made, but our men are on their trail,” Ukandu stated, assuring that investigations are ongoing to uncover the motive behind the attack and bring the culprits to justice.

In a separate incident, a commercial bus driver was brutally assaulted by suspected hoodlums on Monday in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred after the driver allegedly beat a traffic light, prompting the hoodlums to chase and assault him until he lost consciousness.

Police officers at the scene swiftly intervened to prevent further chaos and managed to arrest four suspects linked to the attack.

Ukandu confirmed that the victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

“The suspects are in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the attack,” the police spokesman said.

He further assured residents that justice will be served and that the command remains committed to maintaining peace and order across the state.

Ukandu also revealed that the injured driver is recuperating and under close medical supervision.
