Ukrainian negotiators arrived in the United States on
Saturday to hold discussions with the Trump administration aimed at ending
nearly four years of war with Russia, a member of the delegation confirmed.
The Ukrainian team is set to meet US President
Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner,
and US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll in Miami, just days ahead of the
fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Kyrylo Budanov, a top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelensky, said on social media: “Arrived in the United States. Together
with Rustem Umerov and David Arakhamia, we will have an important conversation
with our American partners regarding the details of the peace agreement.”
Kyiv is seeking clarity on security guarantees from
its allies, as Trump has repeatedly pushed for a swift end to the conflict —
Europe’s deadliest since World War II — while expressing frustration with both
sides. The US administration has also urged Ukraine to accept peace terms Kyiv
considers akin to capitulation.
Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States indicated
that the talks would focus on both security assurances and post-war
reconstruction. Zelensky expressed hope on Friday that Ukraine could sign
agreements with the US next week.
