Wolverhampton Wanderers produced a stunning late victory over Liverpool, as Rodrigo Gomes and Andre struck in the final minutes at Molineux.

Liverpool, managed by Arne Slot, fell behind in the 78th minute when Tolu Arokodare set up Rodrigo Gomes, who held off Ibrahima Konate to score past Alisson Becker. Mohamed Salah briefly hauled the Reds level in the 83rd minute after Wolves midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde misplayed a pass.

However, Andre’s stoppage-time strike, deflected off Joe Gomez, secured a historic win for Wolves — the first time a Premier League bottom club has beaten the reigning champions since Crystal Palace defeated Chelsea in 2017. Wolves, still 11 points from safety, celebrated the rare victory while Slot looked crestfallen.

Liverpool remain fifth in the league, but their Champions League hopes are under threat, as sixth-placed Chelsea could overtake them if they defeat Aston Villa on Wednesday. The defeat also marks Liverpool’s first in five games across all competitions this season, raising further questions over Slot’s Anfield tenure.

The match featured an emotional 18th-minute tribute to former Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who tragically died last year, with both Wolves and Liverpool fans applauding in his memory.

Other Premier League Results

  • Everton ended an eight-game home winless streak, defeating second-bottom Burnley 2-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. James Tarkowski opened the scoring with a header from James Garner’s free-kick, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall doubled the lead on the hour. Everton remain in contention for a European spot, while Burnley are eight points from safety with nine games left.
  • Sunderland secured a narrow 1-0 win over Leeds United, with Habib Diarra converting a penalty on Sunderland’s first Premier League visit to Elland Road since 2002.
  • Bournemouth and Brentford played out a goalless draw at the Vitality Stadium, doing little to boost either side’s European ambitions.

Liverpool now face Wolves again in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday, presenting an immediate chance for redemption after this chastening league defeat.
