The African Action Congress (AAC) candidate in the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, Ms. Chioma Ifemeludike, has reacted to the outcome of the poll, saying that “integrity stands firm and higher than political deception.”

In a post shared via her verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Ifemeludike described herself as a “winner,” despite the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Integrity stands firm and higher than political deception. I am a winner,” she wrote.

Her reaction followed the announcement of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election, which was conducted across the 21 local government areas of the state on Saturday.

According to INEC, Soludo secured 422,664 votes, defeating Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes.

Other candidates trailed behind, including:

  • Paul Chukwuma (YPP) – 37,753 votes
  • George Moghalu (LP) – 10,576 votes
  • John Nwosu (ADC) – 8,208 votes
  • Jude Ezenwafor (PDP) – 1,401 votes
  • Chioma Ifemeludike (AAC) – 292 votes

The election was largely peaceful, though reports indicated low voter turnout in some areas.

Vote-Buying Allegations

Before the close of polls, Ms. Ifemeludike had raised alarm over alleged cases of vote-buying, which she said threatened the credibility of the exercise.

However, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Anambra State, Queen Agwu, dismissed the claims, insisting that no verifiable evidence had been presented.

“Vote-buying is a very serious offence and a legislative matter. If you want to accuse someone, give us evidence. You can’t just go on television and say there’s vote-buying everywhere without mentioning one place,” Agwu said on Channels Television’s News at 10.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed the arrest of three suspected vote buyers in different parts of the state. The anti-graft agency said the suspects would be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
