Bandits have reportedly abducted an unspecified number
of students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School
(GGCSS) in Maga, located in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area
of Kebbi State.
The attack occurred on Sunday night, throwing
the school and surrounding communities into panic.
According to local sources, the armed men stormed the
school and killed the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, before
whisking away several schoolgirls. The exact number of abducted students
remains unclear as of press time.
Witnesses said the attackers operated unhindered,
spreading fear throughout the community. Makuku was said to have been shot
while trying to protect the students during the invasion.
Residents have been offering prayers for the late
educator, asking Allah to grant him mercy and comfort his family over the
tragic loss.
Attempts to reach the Kebbi State Police Public
Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, were unsuccessful as calls to his
phone were not answered.
However, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ahmed
Idris, confirmed the incident. He noted that the government was still
working to determine the actual number of abducted students.
Idris added that the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar
Tafida, had been dispatched to the school to assess the situation on behalf
of Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently out of the state.
“The deputy governor is on his way to know the exact
situation. The governor is not in the state for now, but his deputy will go on
his behalf until he returns at any moment from now,” he said.
Concerned parents and residents are anxiously awaiting
official updates on the fate of the abducted girls.
