FC Barcelona secured the La Liga title in emphatic
fashion with a commanding Clasico victory over fierce rivals Real Madrid,
sealing consecutive league crowns and condemning Los Blancos to a trophyless
campaign.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres in the
opening half handed Hansi Flick’s side a comfortable win at Camp Nou, moving
Barcelona 14 points clear at the top of the table with only three matches
remaining.
The triumph marked only the second time in La Liga
history that the championship has been decided directly through the outcome of
a Clasico encounter.
Madrid entered the match surrounded by turmoil after
midfielder Federico Valverde was ruled out with a head injury reportedly
suffered during a training-ground altercation with teammate Aurélien
Tchouaméni.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick also faced personal
heartbreak ahead of the game following the death of his father, but still took
charge from the touchline as his team delivered a dominant performance.
With teenage sensation Lamine Yamal sidelined through
injury, Flick handed Rashford a starting role on the right wing, and the
Manchester United loanee made an immediate impact.
The England international opened the scoring with a
stunning free-kick from 20 yards out, curling the ball into the top corner to
ignite celebrations among the 62,000 supporters inside Camp Nou.
Barcelona doubled their lead soon after when Dani Olmo
produced a clever backheel that released Torres into the area before the
forward fired past Thibaut Courtois.
Madrid, missing injured superstar Kylian Mbappé,
struggled to respond despite moments of pressure from Jude Bellingham and
Vinícius Júnior.
Bellingham briefly thought he had reduced the deficit
in the second half, but his effort was ruled out for offside, while Barcelona
goalkeeper Joan García produced key saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The victory keeps Barcelona on course to challenge the
historic 100-point mark in La Liga, while Madrid now face the prospect of major
changes during the summer.
Former manager José Mourinho has already been linked
with a sensational return as club president Florentino Pérez searches for
answers to halt Barcelona’s growing domestic dominance.
