Veteran Nigerian boxer Bash Ali has once again
declared his support for the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C),
commending the body for its long-standing role in overseeing boxing activities
and safeguarding athletes across the country.
Ali, who has been pursuing a Guinness World Record
boxing project in Nigeria for years, recalled that the board has been actively
involved in his career since his first professional fight in the country on
December 5, 1987. He noted that all his bouts held within Nigeria have been
conducted under the supervision of the regulatory body.
The boxer also pointed out that the Federal Government
has consistently included the NBB of C in Local Organizing Committees set up
for his record-breaking boxing initiative. He referenced past
administrations—Olusegun Obasanjo in 2006, Goodluck Jonathan in 2014, and
Muhammadu Buhari in 2019—as examples of governments that formally recognized
the board’s role in the project.
In addition, Ali revealed that the National Assembly
of Nigeria is also set to involve the boxing board in the inauguration of a new
Local Organizing Committee for the Bash Ali Boxing Project, with an official
invitation expected soon.
Reaffirming his loyalty, Ali emphasized that the board
has been instrumental in regulating the sport, protecting fighters, and
promoting boxing development in Nigeria over the years.
The Bash Ali Boxing Project, aimed at staging a
historic Guinness World Record fight in Nigeria, has experienced several
setbacks due to administrative and organizational hurdles. However, renewed
efforts—supported by government-backed committees—are underway to revive the
initiative.
Ali concluded by restating his unwavering support for
the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control and its continued involvement in bringing
the long-awaited project to life.
