The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of three officers and the disappearance of seven others following a deadly ambush on security personnel in Katsina-Ala, Benue State, on Friday, September 19, 2025.

In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, the Commissioner of Police in Benue, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is currently spearheading a rescue mission to locate the missing officers and track down the perpetrators. Hundeyin added that several suspects have already been arrested and are providing investigators with “useful information.”

Reacting to the incident, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun strongly condemned the attack, describing it as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront to the good people of Benue State.” He further ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to the troubled axis and vowed that the criminal networks responsible would be completely dismantled.

The Force also called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. It reassured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to rescue the missing officers and restore peace across Katsina-Ala and neighboring communities.
