Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has described the death of Dr.
Doyin Okupe as “a shock and a personal loss”.
Speaking on Saturday, George, the Atona Oodua of Yorubaland, said he got closer
to Okupe when he was spokesman to former President Olusegun Obasanjo “and he
never disappointed”.
“He also served as President Goodluck Jonathan’s Senior Special Assistant on
Public Affairs and his views were patriotic, nationalistic and noble.
“Despite his political leanings for decades, he was an easy-going and
principled individual. He was always focused and never insulted anybody.
“He was a medical doctor with friends all over the country and he never severed
ties with his friends despite political differences. He was such a wonderful
fellow. He never played politics of bitterness.
“It is my prayer that God will grant his family members and associates the
fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. I also pray that God will grant him
eternal rest”.
