Chelsea FC have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior with immediate effect, just four months after his appointment at the club.

Rosenior had signed a long-term five-and-a-half-year contract after joining from French side Strasbourg, which is also linked to Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. However, his tenure quickly unravelled after a poor run of results.

During his spell, he recorded 11 wins in 23 matches across all competitions. The situation worsened following a 3–0 defeat to Brighton, which marked Chelsea’s fifth consecutive league game without scoring—their worst goalless streak since 1912.

After the defeat, Rosenior described the team’s performance as “indefensible” and “unacceptable,” amid visible frustration from travelling supporters. The result left Chelsea in seventh place in the Premier League, seven points behind Liverpool, who currently occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.

In the meantime, Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as interim head coach until the end of the season, starting with the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United.

In an official statement, Chelsea expressed appreciation for Rosenior’s efforts, noting that he had conducted himself with professionalism during his time at the club. The club, however, said recent performances fell below required standards, especially with key objectives still ahead this season.

Chelsea added that McFarlane will be supported by existing backroom staff as the club pushes for European qualification and FA Cup success. The statement also confirmed that the club will begin a review process aimed at appointing a long-term head coach to restore stability.
