The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two
suspects in connection with the killing of three family members whose bodies
were discovered in a shallow grave in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu,
arrested Emmanuel Nnabueze Nnakezie (33) and Clement Nnaekezie (69) on May 3,
2026, following an investigation into the victims’ disappearance. Police said
the suspects were tracked and apprehended in Oba and Ukpor after receiving
credible intelligence.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu
Ikenga, the suspects later confessed to the crime and led investigators to the
burial site where the bodies were exhumed and taken to a morgue for autopsy.
The victims have been identified as Robert Nnakezie
(67), 14-year-old Ikechukwu Obi, and two-year-old Ukamaka Efione, who was
reportedly visiting the family on holiday.
Preliminary findings suggest the killings were linked
to a dispute over land ownership and a bitter kola tree within the community.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned
the incident as “barbaric and unacceptable,” assuring that the suspects will be
prosecuted and justice will be served.
Police authorities say investigations are ongoing to
determine if more individuals were involved in the crime.
