The refinery commends federal officials for ending the union’s “disruptive actions,” pledges continued service to Nigerians.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), and key federal ministers for their intervention in resolving the recent industrial dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

In a statement released on Sunday, the refinery commended the Minister of Labour and Employment, other senior government officials, and security agencies for their “patriotism and national service” in addressing what it described as the “disruptive actions of PENGASSAN against the refinery.”

“Dangote Refinery is grateful to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, for his intervention, through his ministers and senior officials, which resulted in the abatement of the disruptive actions of PENGASSAN against the Refinery,” the company said.
“We remain very grateful to these officials for their patriotism and national service.”

‘We Remain Committed to Nigeria’s Progress’

The refinery also thanked Nigerians for their solidarity and encouragement during the crisis, saying the support reinforced its belief in the nation and its people.

“You gave us hope and reinforced our belief in the Nigerian nation and people as the backbone of our enterprise.
Be assured that we would continue to work for and in your interest and persist in always protecting that interest against rent seekers, economic saboteurs, and economic squatters,” the statement read.

Dangote Refinery expressed special appreciation to its workers for maintaining operations throughout the industrial unrest.

“To our loyal workers, who ensured that our operations were not disrupted even for a second, we thank and appreciate you,” the statement added.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to “faithfully and diligently” serve the nation through uninterrupted production of petroleum products.

“Our commitment to the Nigerian nation and our pact with its people remain undiluted, undiminished, and unalterable, notwithstanding the distractions from our detractors and saboteurs in our midst,” it stated.

Background: How the Dispute Was Resolved

The Federal Government had on Wednesday announced the resolution of the labour dispute between PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery.

The reconciliation meeting, initially led by Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammed Dingyadi, was later moved to the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) after an initial deadlock.

The conflict stemmed from disagreements over unionisation and the alleged dismissal of over 800 Nigerian workers by the refinery, prompting PENGASSAN to issue a notice to stop gas supply and withdraw services nationwide.

Also present at the high-level meeting were:

  • Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun
  • Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu
  • Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha
  • Director-General of the DSS, Director-General of the NIA, and a representative of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas)

Following the intervention, PENGASSAN suspended its industrial action, allowing operations at the refinery to continue smoothly.
