The Ebonyi State Ministry of Education had suspended
two head teachers indefinitely over alleged gross misconduct, denial of quality
education to pupils, and sabotage of the state government’s education efforts.
The suspension followed days after a viral video
exposed the poor conditions under which pupils were reportedly learning.
Sources said the head teachers were accused of being behind the footage, which
drew public reaction online and showed classrooms with unfinished block walls,
inadequate learning facilities, and poor infrastructure.
However, in a press statement released on Thursday,
the governor directed the immediate lifting of the suspension.
In the statement signed by Leo Oketa, Special
Assistant to Governor Nwifuru on New Media, the governor said his attention was
drawn to discussions on new media platforms regarding the suspension of the
head teachers. He also reiterated that his administration remains committed to
the welfare of teachers and pupils and to improving learning conditions in
schools across the state.
The governor explained that his administration is
already undertaking massive school building projects, particularly at Community
Primary School Unwuigboke and Community Primary School Unwuezeali, in Oriuzor,
as part of efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and provide better
learning environments.
He acknowledged that infrastructural challenges remain
in some communities, adding that efforts are being sustained progressively,
noting that all needs cannot be met at the same time.
The governor further said the government appreciates
citizens and media organizations for raising concerns and assured the public of
its continued commitment to quality education and the well-being of Ebonyi
people.
