Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo
has pledged to intensify efforts to combat insecurity in the state, while also
promising to fix bad roads across Edo.
Speaking on Sunday at a thanksgiving service at
the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Auchi, to mark his first year in
office, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to ridding the state of
criminal elements.
“We will continue to do our best to fight insecurity
and ensure that the evil ones are driven out of our midst,” he said, noting
that improving roads and tackling crime remain top priorities.
The governor expressed gratitude to God for His
guidance over the past year and recalled a solemn vow he made to return to the
cathedral in thanksgiving after winning both the party primary and the
governorship election.
He also extended appreciation to the Catholic
Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, and the faithful for
their prayers and support, describing them as partners in faith and governance.
Governor Okpebholo sympathized with families affected
by recent kidnappings of priests in the diocese, assuring them of the
government’s resolve to restore peace and security.
“While I sympathize with the Church over the kidnapped
priests in recent times, I want to say that there is never a day we are not
concerned about the insecurity in our land. We are doing everything possible to
bring it to an end,” he said.
Bishop Dunia, who officiated the service, commended
the governor for reintroducing the state’s monthly environmental sanitation
exercise and keeping his vow of thanksgiving, describing him as a man of
integrity and faith.
The service drew dignitaries and worshippers from
across Edo State, creating an atmosphere of unity, gratitude, and reflection on
faith-driven leadership.
