The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
Nyesom Wike, has given property owners in parts of Abuja a final 14-day grace
period to pay a ?5 million conversion fee for violating land use regulations.
The announcement was made on Sunday by Wike’s Senior
Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, who
said the grace period begins Tuesday, November 11, 2025, and applies to
property owners in Asokoro, Maitama, Garki, and Wuse districts.
“Failure to comply within the stated 14 calendar days
grace period will result in enforcement actions by the FCT Administration,” the
statement warned.
The move follows the expiration of an initial 30-day
deadline for affected allottees and title holders to regularize their
properties. According to the FCT Administration, the grace period is meant to encourage
voluntary compliance before stricter enforcement measures are implemented.
Affected streets and locations include Gana Street,
Usuma Street, Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Aminu Kano Crescent, Adetokunbo Ademola
Crescent, Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya Street, Onitsha Street, and
several others across the Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse II, Garki I, and Garki II
districts.
Earlier in September, the FCT Minister fined some
property owners who had converted residential buildings to commercial use
without approval. The new grace period represents the government’s final
opportunity for compliance.
