The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection
Commission, FCCPC, has declared its resolve to work in partnership with the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in the fight against corruption.
This was conveyed by Ibrahim Muhammad, Zonal
Coordinator, FCCPC when he led other members of the Commission on a courtesy
visit to the Acting Director, Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, ACE I
Bawa Usman Kaltungo.
Muhammad noted that partnership and collaboration with
the EFCC in Kaduna State became
necessary with the recent establishment
of FCCPC Kaduna Zonal Office, adding that "the
people in Kaduna and it's environs will begin to enjoy the mandates of FCCPC
which is geared towards protecting consumer's right and interest, and also to
promote ethical conduct among product and service providers thus, ensuring
standardised practices. We need the collaboration with EFCC.”
Kaltungo in his response expressed delight with the
visit and commended FCCPC on the drive for partnership with the
EFCC, noting it will not just be beneficial to the society alone but also
both agencies of the government. According to him, “there is need for
collaboration in this regard in order to win the fight against corruption,
monopoly and bring an end to the various anti-societal policies which end up
causing untold hardship to individuals, especially regarding the issues of
"no refund policy", even when a consumer is not satisfied with
services rendered or products purchased.”
The meeting highlighted possible means of addressing
corrupt practices in the market environment and ensuring compliance with
regulations through rigorous awareness campaign.
