Tensions escalated on Tuesday between FCT Minister
Nyesom Wike, his entourage, and military personnel when he was blocked
from accessing a land in the Gaduwa district.
Wike and his officials confronted soldiers at the
site, alleging that due process had not been followed in the land’s
development. “You have no document,” Wike told the officers, insisting that no
one is above the law.
The minister accused the military of acting with impunity
and warned that his administration would not allow intimidation tactics to
stand. “You cannot be carrying a gun to intimidate anybody. I am not one of
those that they can intimidate,” he said.
The soldiers, however, maintained that they were
acting on instructions from former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral
Zubairu Gambo, and refused to vacate the site.
Wike criticized the lack of communication from former
officials, describing the attempt as blackmail and vowing not to yield
to intimidation.
