The FCT Police Command has dismissed online
reports claiming that Lt. A.M. Yerima, a naval officer who recently
clashed with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed land site, was the
target of an assassination attempt.
On Sunday, November 16, several online posts
alleged that Yerima was trailed by unknown men dressed in black and driving two
unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates, from the NIPCO Filling
Station on the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way. The reports
suggested that Yerima managed to evade the assailants using a “strategic
maneuver.”
Reacting to the claims, SP Josephine Adeh,
spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, stated that no such incident was
reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.
“The public is advised to disregard this false
information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing
unnecessary panic,” she said.
“For the safety of all residents, the Command urges
the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest
Police Division. You may also contact the Command Headquarters through our
emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311 for prompt
response,” she added.
