GRASOF Appoints Fanny Amun Ambassador for 3rd Senate President Unity Cup

The Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF) has appointed former Nigeria U-17 coach, Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, as an Ambassador for the third edition of the Senate President Under-18 Annual Unity Cup 2026.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State between October and November 2026.

Amun’s appointment was contained in an official letter dated August 3, 2026, and signed by GRASOF National President, Hon. John Ekpenyong.

The federation said the appointment recognises Amun’s significant contributions to Nigerian football, youth development and grassroots sports.

Amun brings extensive experience to the initiative, having served as a coach of Nigeria’s victorious 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup team. He also previously served as Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Association and Assistant Director at the Federal Ministry of Sports.

According to GRASOF, his appointment is aimed at strengthening the tournament’s core objectives of discovering grassroots talent, empowering young people and promoting peace, unity and national development through sports.

As an ambassador, Amun is expected to serve as one of the major faces and voices of the competition. His responsibilities will include mentoring participating young players, promoting grassroots talent identification and supporting GRASOF’s vision of using sports to foster unity and youth empowerment.

The third edition of the Senate President Under-18 Annual Unity Cup will feature 24 male and female teams drawn from different parts of Nigeria, with Akwa Ibom State serving as the host.

GRASOF described the first two editions of the competition as successful and expressed confidence that Amun’s experience, passion and commitment to grassroots football would add significant value to the 2026 tournament.

The federation also said his involvement would help inspire young footballers and create a stronger platform for identifying and nurturing the next generation of Nigerian football talent.

GRASOF congratulated Ambassador Fanny Amun on his appointment and expressed optimism that his contribution would help make the 2026 edition a memorable celebration of youth football, unity and national development.
