Suspected armed militia have attacked Tor-Damisa community in Donga Local Government Area, killing three police officers and five civilians in a violent assault.

Residents said the attackers, heavily armed, stormed the community around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, opening fire indiscriminately and causing widespread panic. Many villagers, including women and children, reportedly fled into nearby bushes to escape the gunfire.

Sources confirmed that eight people lost their lives in the incident, while several others sustained gunshot injuries. A resident, who spoke anonymously, described the scene as chaotic, with people running in different directions as the attackers invaded the area.

A distress call was reportedly sent to the Donga Police Division, prompting a rapid response. Reinforcements, including soldiers from the 93 Battalion in Takum, were deployed to the community.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the attack through its spokesperson in Taraba State, Victor Mshelizah, who said officers responded swiftly after receiving a report from a resident.

He explained that upon arrival, police operatives engaged the attackers in a gun battle and successfully repelled them.

According to the police, two officers—CPL Raphael Danjuma and PC Ebenezer Daniel—died from gunshot wounds during the confrontation, while another officer, PC Samuel Bawa, was initially declared missing but later found dead in a nearby bush.

The body of a 60-year-old vigilante leader, Nutsa Tyav, was also recovered after the attack.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Betty Isokpan Otimenyin, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers and the vigilante member.

She extended condolences to the families of the victims and assured that their sacrifices would not be forgotten, as security operatives continue efforts to restore calm in the affected community.
