The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested two teenage boys, Umar Yahaya and Musa Al-Hassan, for allegedly planning to organise a controversial birthday party involving cross-dressers and pimps during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Kano.

The Deputy Commandant General of the board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

According to Aminudeen, the teenagers—aged 19 and 18—allegedly used social media platforms to invite people from different parts of the country to attend what they described as a “grand birthday celebration” scheduled to take place shortly after the Eid prayers.

He stated that the suspects identified themselves as Yan Daudu (a term locally associated with cross-dressing men) and planned a gathering that would include dancing and other activities considered inappropriate by the authorities.

Aminudeen expressed concern that individuals of such a young age were involved in organising the event, adding that the planned celebration was viewed as an act capable of undermining the spiritual significance of the Ramadan fast.

He further alleged that the organisers had openly invited participants from various locations and even referenced the Hisbah Board and its leadership in their invitations.

Following their arrest, Aminudeen said the teenagers expressed regret and apologised for their actions.

According to him, the board discovered that the young men lacked proper understanding of Islamic teachings and moral conduct.

Instead of prosecuting them immediately, the Hisbah Board decided to keep the teenagers under its supervision, where they will receive guidance and religious instruction aimed at helping them develop better character and become responsible members of society.

Aminudeen explained that the board believes rehabilitation and proper guidance may be more beneficial than sending them to court or prison.

He also announced that the Hisbah Board would intensify monitoring activities across mosques in Kano as Ramadan enters its final days.

The board plans to deploy personnel to observe night prayer gatherings, including Tarawih and Tahajjud sessions, following complaints that some individuals allegedly use the late-night prayer periods for activities unrelated to worship.

Aminudeen urged the community to use the final days of Ramadan to increase prayers, devotion, and good deeds, rather than engaging in behaviour that contradicts the spiritual purpose of the holy month.
