Liverpool suffered another heavy defeat at Anfield,
losing to Nottingham Forest for the second successive season, marking a
worrying decline for the club. The Reds have now lost eight of their last 11
games across all competitions, including six of their last seven Premier League
fixtures.
This marks the first time Liverpool have lost
consecutive league games by a three-goal margin since 1965, highlighting a
period of uncharacteristic struggles for the club.
Manager Slot admitted on Friday that the squad is
still emotionally affected by the tragic death of Diogo Jota in a car crash in
Spain last July. On the pitch, Liverpool again appeared devoid of inspiration
and energy, delivering a lethargic performance that leaves them languishing in
11th place, eight points behind leaders Arsenal.
Liverpool’s decline is particularly concerning given
their summer spending spree of over £400 million ($523 million). Sweden striker
Alexander Isak, who joined from Newcastle in a British record move, was
substituted in the second half of his fourth league start and is yet to score
for the Reds in the Premier League.
As Liverpool struggles to find form and cohesion,
questions are mounting over whether the squad can recover from this
disappointing run and live up to the expectations that accompanied their
record-signing summer.
