Napoli have confirmed the appointment of Massimiliano
Allegri as the club's new head coach following the departure of Antonio Conte.
In a statement released on Friday, the Serie A club
announced that Allegri has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at
the club until 2029.
The experienced Italian manager returns to the dugout
after previous spells with Juventus and AC Milan. Allegri managed Juventus
between 2014 and 2019 before returning for a second stint from 2021 to 2024. He
also coached AC Milan from 2010 to 2014 and again during the 2025/26 season
before leaving after the club finished fifth, missing out on qualification for
next season's UEFA Champions League.
Napoli's appointment of Allegri is part of a wave of
managerial changes across Serie A, with nine of the league's 20 clubs replacing
their head coaches since the end of the season.
Among the other notable changes, AC Milan have
appointed Portuguese manager Rúben Amorim, while Atalanta and Fiorentina have
named Maurizio Sarri and Fabio Grosso respectively as their new managers.
Conte leaves Napoli after a successful spell in
charge, having guided the club to the Serie A title during the 2024/25 season
before leading them to a second-place finish in the recently concluded
campaign.
The former Italy international is now widely tipped to
return as head coach of the Italian national team. Conte previously managed the
Azzurri between 2014 and 2016, leading them to the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro
2016, where they were eliminated by Germany in a penalty shootout.
