Nigerian Navy officer Lt. A.M. Yarima, who
recently engaged in a heated confrontation with the Minister of the Federal
Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reportedly escaped an
assassination attempt on Sunday, November 16.
According to Vanguard, military sources
revealed that the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when the officer
was allegedly trailed by unidentified men dressed in black and riding in two
unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates. The vehicles reportedly followed him
from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco
Way.
Sensing danger, Lt. Yarima was said to have carried
out a “strategic maneuver” that enabled him to evade the suspected
assailants and escape unharmed.
The source added that the incident has been formally
reported and is currently under thorough investigation, emphasizing that it is
being treated with “the seriousness it deserves.” Additional details are
being withheld to avoid jeopardizing the ongoing inquiry.
The alleged assassination attempt comes just days
after Lt. Yarima, alongside other security personnel, was involved in a tense
public confrontation with Minister Wike over a disputed land site in the Gaduwa
District of Abuja—a clash that quickly drew national attention.
