The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that
its indigenous digital platform, B’Odogwu, has generated over ?230 billion in
revenue since its launch in October 2024. This milestone underscores the
platform's effectiveness in modernizing customs operations and enhancing trade
efficiency.
B’Odogwu, officially known as the Unified Customs
Management System (UCMS), was developed through a public-private partnership
between the NCS and Trade Modernization Project Limited. The platform aims to
streamline customs processes, reduce clearance times, and improve revenue
collection. It incorporates advanced features such as electronic cargo
tracking, automated risk management, and non-intrusive scanning technologies.
According to Comptroller Tenny Daniyan of the Ports
and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command, the platform has
significantly improved operations, allowing compliant traders to clear
consignments in as little as one hour. He emphasized that over 90% of initial
challenges have been resolved, attributing the platform's success to its robust
and secure design .
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has also expressed
support for B’Odogwu, facilitating its integration with financial institutions
to ensure seamless trade documentation and duty payments. CBN Governor Olayemi
Cardoso highlighted the importance of collaboration between the banking sector
and customs operations to enhance trade efficiency .
The successful implementation of B’Odogwu marks a
significant step in Nigeria's efforts to modernize its customs infrastructure,
aligning with international best practices and reducing reliance on foreign
systems.
