Abuja, May 28, 2025 – The National Identity Management
Commission (NIMC) aims to enroll 95% of Nigeria’s estimated population—approximately
187 million individuals—with a unique National Identification Number (NIN) by December
2025

Strategic Actions to Meet Objectives
1.
Ward-Level Enrollment Campaigns
Intensified outreach across wards nationwide is underway to capture residents
directly in their communities
2.
Infrastructure & Centre Expansion
NIMC is deploying additional registration centres and enhancing backend systems
to increase capacity and handle volume
3.
Public Awareness & Trust Initiatives
The commission is leading sensitization drives to highlight NIN’s importance
for banking, telecoms, and public services. Privacy measures include
user-consent tools, data protection certifications, and strengthened
cybersecurity
4.
Integration with MDAs
Over 120 government ministries, departments, and agencies are already
integrated with NIMC’s ID infrastructure, enabling wider verification use cases
5.
Digital ID Card Rollout
A new digital ID card is scheduled for launch by October 2025, enhancing
digital governance and e-services
