The Director General of the National Sports Commission
(NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has commended renowned entrepreneur and sports
investor, Hon. Kunle Soname, for his significant role in advancing sports
development in Nigeria.
Hon. Olopade made these remarks on Thursday after
welcoming Soname to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, where both
leaders held discussions on the future of Nigerian sports.
Describing Soname’s impact, Olopade stated, “Kunle
Soname is a blessing to Nigerian sports. His contributions are laudable—he has
taken youth off the streets, given them a future, and built careers for many.
He deserves the applause of the NSC. Our discussions behind closed doors were
all centered on advancing sports in Nigeria.”
Beyond football, Soname has extended his support to
various other sports in Nigeria. Olopade stressed the importance of private
sector participation in sports financing, saying, “If more individuals like
Soname emerge, Nigeria’s sports industry will thrive. The government cannot do
it alone—the private sector must play an active role in driving growth.”
The meeting reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to
fostering public-private partnerships to accelerate sports development across
the country.
