The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring that all 14 recognized constituencies are fully represented in the governance structure of Nigeria’s sports federations.

The assurance comes after consultations with key stakeholders ahead of the National Sports Federations elections slated for October 18, 2025, in Abuja. According to the NSC, inclusivity, fairness, and transparency remain the foundation of Nigeria’s sports administration, and no constituency will be disenfranchised in the electoral process.

The 14 constituencies recognized in the structure include:

  • 6 Zonal Representatives (from the country’s geopolitical zones)
  • 1 Athlete Representative
  • 1 Technical Representative
  • 1 Military/Paramilitary Representative
  • 1 NAWIS Representative (Nigeria Association for Women in Sports)
  • 1 NAPHER-SD Representative (Nigeria Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation, Sports, and Dance)
  • 1 Sponsor Representative
  • 1 AFFAN Representative (Amputee Football Federation of Nigeria)

Speaking on the development, NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, stressed that inclusivity is non-negotiable:

“The strength of our sports federations lies in representation. None of the 14 constituencies will be excluded from participating in governance. Every voice must be heard in shaping the future of Nigerian sports.”

The Commission has also directed the Gymnastics, Judo, and Shooting Federations to prepare for their upcoming elections. While Judo and Gymnastics will conduct zonal elections before the national polls, the Shooting Federation will proceed directly with electing its President and Vice President, having already completed its zonal elections.

The NSC emphasized that the elections will further entrench democracy in sports governance, ensuring that all federations are run in line with global best practices.
