Nwajiagah Omeruo beat Omotayo Osewa in the finals
4-2, 1-4, 10-6 to win the maiden Amazons Tennis
Tournament to celebrate International Women’s Day at the Lagos Tennis Club,
Onikan, Lagos.
The laudable event with plenty razzmatazz, colour and
fun -fare was put together by Ambassador Joy Obayemi and Princess Chukwudumebi
Agu in paternership with the Lagos Tennis Club.
The tournament remarkably witnessed over 72 registered
recreational women tennis players turning out in their numbers to participate
in marking the Int’l Women’s Day celebration.
It also provided a decent platform for Nigerian Junior
young pro ranked female tennis players to compete.
The eventual winner Nwajiagah who beat her opponent by
two games to one major score, praised the organizers for putting together such
a wonderful tournament while also thanking God for her victory.
“I want to thank God for my victory and for being the
last Amazon standing.
“It wasn’t really easy but I was confident and kept
pushing myself.
“I also thank the organizers for putting together such
a huge competition”.
In addition, the participants also received a free
health talk on “fibroid” from a renowned Wellness Consultant, Ibrahim Ometere
Rekiyat who charged them to always seek first the services of a medical expert
rather than resort to prayers or going to their pastors for medical related
issues.
They were many brands on ground to market their
products, music and other side attractions which added ambience to the entire
event.
The event will be held annually according to the
organizers.
The main draws winner, Nwajiagah Omeruo received a
cash prize of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000), a giant trophy while the
runner up, Omotayo Osewa was given the sum of one hundred thousand naira
(N100,000).
In other categories, Chinenye Afam and Betsy Ezeiruaku
finished as joint winners in the American Doubles and were rewarded with the
sum of fifty thousand naira (N50,000) while Ndidi Osaji won in the Junior Pro
with Fareehah Adams as runner up.
