The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has arrested two suspected kidnappers and eight other suspects for various offences across the state.

The suspects were paraded on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, by the Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye.

Adeleye identified the two suspected kidnappers as 27-year-old Gambo and 19-year-old Murtala.

According to him, Gambo was arrested in the Shasha area of Akure while allegedly negotiating a ransom for a woman and her two children who were kidnapped around the Isinigbo/Osi axis.

Adeleye said Amotekun operatives, acting on a distress call, responded to the incident within minutes and rescued the victims following a brief confrontation with the suspected kidnappers.

Gambo was reportedly arrested while communicating with the victims’ families over ransom payments. The security agency alleged that he later confessed to involvement in several kidnapping operations within the Akure North axis.

The second suspect, Murtala, was arrested in Molege, Owo, while allegedly attempting to kidnap the wife of his former employer.

He was reportedly found with a locally made firearm and other weapons. According to Adeleye, Murtala had gained access to the woman’s residence but fled after her husband and other occupants raised the alarm and mobilised security personnel.

Amotekun said the suspect was eventually apprehended after operatives and local informants, including some Fulani residents engaged in legitimate businesses, cordoned off the area.

Adeleye said the cooperation of the community members helped security operatives identify the suspects and avoid generalising criminal activities along ethnic lines.

Eight Others Arrested

The Corps Commander also disclosed that eight other suspects were arrested for offences ranging from motorcycle theft and armed robbery to church burglary and housebreaking.

Among those paraded was Mustafa Aniliasu, who was accused of stealing motorcycles and burgling churches and mosques. He was reportedly arrested after allegedly breaking into a church in Elegbeka.

Two other suspects, identified as Joseph, 25, and Friday, 20, were arrested for allegedly stealing and reselling motorcycles. One of them was accused of helping to conceal and sell a stolen motorcycle for N70,000.

Another suspect, identified as Duyilemi, was accused of posing as an Okada rider and robbing unsuspecting passengers. Adeleye alleged that the suspect used daggers and knives to intimidate passengers before dispossessing them of their belongings.

He was reportedly arrested in the Sango area of Akure North following surveillance by Amotekun operatives.

Other suspects included Wahab, who was arrested over the alleged theft of drum sets in Danjuma along the Akure-Ondo Road, and 28-year-old Aminu, who was accused of burgling a church in the Sijuade area of Akure.

Adeleye also identified Kabiru as an alleged serial housebreaker who was arrested for reportedly stealing a gas cylinder. He said the suspect had previously been arrested several times and released on bail.

Amotekun Reports Drop in Crime

Adeleye said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and curb criminal activities across Ondo State.

He maintained that the security situation in the state had improved significantly, with a major decline in reported criminal activities.

The Amotekun commander attributed the improvement to the combined efforts of security agencies and urged residents to continue supporting security operatives by providing useful information.

He assured residents that security agencies would continue to intensify patrols and operations to ensure that people can conduct their businesses and return home safely without fear.
