Nigeria will be strongly represented at the CAF
Awards 2025, with Victor Osimhen, Stanley Nwabali, and Daniel Bameyi
earning nominations in major categories after standout performances for club
and country.
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen headlines
Nigeria’s contingent as a nominee for CAF Player of the Year (Men). The
2023 winner enjoyed a record-breaking debut season in Turkey, scoring 37
goals to lead Galatasaray to a league and cup double. He faces
fierce competition from Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi
(Paris Saint-Germain), and several other African stars including Fiston
Mayele, Serhou Guirassy, and Frank Anguissa.
In the Goalkeeper of the Year (Men) category, Stanley
Nwabali received a nod following his heroic performances at AFCON 2023
and consistent displays for Chippa United in South Africa. His rivals
include André Onana, Yassine Bounou, Edouard Mendy, and Ronwen
Williams.
Youngster Daniel Bameyi, captain of Nigeria’s Flying
Eagles, is shortlisted for Young Player of the Year (Men) after a
stellar outing at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup, where he scored twice and
led Nigeria’s impressive campaign. He faces challengers from Morocco, South
Africa, and Burkina Faso.
Other notable categories include Interclub Player
of the Year, featuring top talents from Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, and DR
Congo, while National Team of the Year (Men) will see heavyweights Morocco,
Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria compete for honours.
The CAF Awards 2025 will celebrate Africa’s
best footballers, clubs, and national teams in a year that has once again
highlighted the continent’s exceptional footballing talent on the global stage.
