Owerri, the capital of Imo State, will host a landmark
event — the Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF) World Heart Day Health Walk. The
awareness walk, led by legendary footballer and Enyimba Chairman Kanu
Nwankwo (Papilo), aims to shine a spotlight on heart health and extend free
medical support to the less privileged.
Kanu, who battled and overcame a heart condition
during his career, founded the Kanu Heart Foundation in 2000. Since
then, the foundation has become the leading provider of free heart treatment in
Nigeria and across Africa, offering life-saving surgeries and care to over
600 children.
This year’s Health Walk in Owerri is designed not only
as a community awareness campaign but also as an avenue for direct impact.
Participants, including local residents and international guests, will join the
march while hundreds of less privileged individuals receive free heart
checkups and treatments courtesy of KHF and its medical partners.
“The walk is a reminder that a healthy heart is the
foundation of a healthy life,” Kanu said ahead of the event. “Through KHF, we
are committed to saving lives and giving hope to families who cannot afford
heart treatment.”
The initiative aligns with the United Nations’
Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), reinforcing
KHF’s role as a global partner in the fight against cardiovascular diseases.
Beyond the medical mission, the walk also opens doors
for corporate sponsors and individuals to show their commitment to
social responsibility. With expected participants and supporters from across
the globe, the event offers a high-visibility platform for brands to engage
with the community while supporting a life-saving cause.
The Kanu Heart Foundation World Heart Day Health
Walk is more than just an event — it is a symbol of solidarity, compassion,
and the power of giving back. On September 29th, all roads will lead to Owerri
as Nigerians and supporters worldwide join Kanu Nwankwo in walking for
healthier hearts and brighter futures.
