Renowned Nigerian evangelist, Reverend Dr. Uma
Ukpai, has passed away at the age of 80.
His family confirmed his death in a statement on Monday,
saying he passed away on October 6, 2025, describing his transition as “a
glorious passage from a life of devoted service to eternal rest.”
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted
his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity,” the statement
read. “His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting
legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come.”
A Life of Impactful Ministry
Ukpai was widely recognised for his fiery
evangelistic campaigns, transformative teachings, and unwavering commitment
to the gospel. His ministry, which spanned more than six decades,
impacted millions of lives across Nigeria and beyond, nurturing faith
and spiritual growth across generations.
He also played a significant role in empowering
both clergy and lay leaders, fostering unity and revival within the
Christian community.
Family Man and Mentor
Beyond his pulpit ministry, Ukpai was celebrated as a loving
husband, devoted father, and mentor to many who regarded him
as a spiritual guide and life coach.
The family expressed gratitude to God for his life and
ministry, noting that though they mourn his physical absence, they rejoice in
his eternal rest.
“We take comfort in knowing he finished his race and
is now resting in eternal praise,” the statement added.
They also announced that funeral arrangements
will be communicated in due course.
A Lasting Legacy
Ukpai’s legacy extends beyond the church, through educational
and humanitarian initiatives that continue to impact communities globally.
His life, the family affirmed, embodied the biblical message: “To live is
Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
