Abuja, Nigeria – Head Coach Eric Chelle has unveiled a
23-man squad that will represent Nigeria at the 8th African Nations
Championship (CHAN), scheduled to hold across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August
2 to 30, 2025.
The squad, featuring a blend of youth and experience,
includes team captain Junior Harrison Nduka, defender Sikiru Alimi, and forward
Godwin Obaje. The players have been training at the Remo Stars Sports Institute
in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, in preparation for the tournament.
Also named in the final roster are goalkeeper Henry
Ozoemena Ani, defenders Sodiq Ismaila and Stephen Mayo Egbe, midfielders Hadi
Haruna and Alex Oyowah, and forwards Anas Yusuf and Ijoma Anthony.
The team is scheduled to depart Nigeria for Zanzibar
on Thursday evening, flying aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight. They will
continue preparations with a second-phase training camp in Zanzibar from July
25 to 31, before moving into official CHAN accommodation on the island.
As part of their buildup, the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) has arranged two friendly matches between the Super Eagles B
and the Zanzibar national team—on Monday, July 28 and Thursday, July 31.
Nigeria, runners-up in the 2018 edition and bronze
medallists in 2014, will compete in Group D of the 19-team tournament. They
face a tough challenge alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo.
The Super Eagles B will play their first two group
matches—against Senegal and Sudan—at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar, before
concluding the group stage against Congo at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar
es Salaam.
