Troops of Sector 3 under Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have arrested a suspected informant believed to be working with a kidnapping syndicate operating in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources identified the suspect as Yohanna Teri, also known as John Mai-Shayi, aged 40. He was apprehended on June 9, 2026, in Kangang community following an intelligence-led operation conducted by security personnel.

According to preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly provided information and other forms of support to a criminal network involved in kidnapping activities within the area.

Investigators reportedly linked him to the abduction of Maxwell Anakwe, a victim who was later rescued by troops during a military operation carried out in the community on June 3.

Security officials described the arrest as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and other criminal groups operating across Plateau State.

They noted that the operation highlights the critical role of intelligence gathering in identifying not only those directly involved in criminal acts but also individuals who provide logistical assistance and strategic information to such groups.

The suspect remains in custody and is currently being interrogated as security operatives work to identify other members of the network and determine the full extent of his alleged involvement in the kidnapping case.

Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at combating insecurity and disrupting criminal activities across Plateau State and neighbouring areas.

They also appealed to residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in the arrest of criminal elements and enhance public safety.
