Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai
have successfully foiled an attempted terrorist attack and rescued nine
abducted persons, including women and children, in the Mandara Mountains area
of Borno State.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the 82
Division Task Force Battalion deployed in Ngoshe as part of ongoing offensives
under Operation Desert Sanity.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that troops
had earlier conducted a successful rescue mission in the area, freeing nine
individuals held by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
However, at about 10:20 a.m. on April 22, armed
elements reportedly launched a follow-up attack from the Gava axis in an
apparent attempt to re-abduct the rescued victims.
Military personnel responded with coordinated
firepower, repelling the attackers and preventing what officials described as a
potential reversal of the earlier rescue operation. Authorities confirmed that
all rescued individuals remained safe as a result of the swift intervention.
Preliminary findings also indicated that one of the
rescued victims, a 16-year-old girl identified as Aisha Abubakar, was allegedly
forced into marriage by a terrorist commander known as “Dabbaba,” who is
believed to have previously operated in Ngoshe before rejoining insurgent ranks
in the Mandara Mountains.
The rescued victims have since received first aid and
are currently in military custody for care, documentation, and debriefing.
Security sources noted that while the overall
situation in the theatre remains relatively calm, it is still unpredictable,
with troops maintaining heightened alertness and operational readiness.
The military high command reiterated its commitment to
sustained offensive operations aimed at rescuing abducted civilians and denying
terrorist groups freedom of movement in Nigeria’s North-East region.
