A United States congressman, Riley Moore, has said
President Donald Trump is determined to end the killing of Christians in
Nigeria, describing recent US air strikes as a direct response to repeated
attacks on Christian communities.
Moore, a member of the US House of Representatives,
said the air strikes carried out on Christmas Day were aimed at terrorist
enclaves responsible for violence against Christians, stressing that the
operation was conducted in partnership with the Nigerian government.
“We did this in coordination with the Nigerian
government, which is very important to point out. This was not a unilateral
action by the United States. It was done to help Nigeria secure its territory
and end the slaughter of Christians,” Moore said in a post on X.
On Christmas Day, the United States launched air
strikes on two terrorist camps located in the Bauni Forest, Tangaza Local
Government Area of Sokoto State.
Moore noted that Christian communities in Nigeria have
come under deadly attacks during Christmas celebrations in the past two years,
adding that the recent strikes marked a shift in approach.
Sharing a clip from his interview on Fox News, the
lawmaker said the military action was designed to disrupt terrorist operations
and protect vulnerable Christian populations.
“For the last two Christmases, there have been
massacres of Christians in Nigeria. This year, the tables have turned. The
terrorists were the ones hit,” he said.
Moore added that President Trump had made it clear he
was personally focused on addressing religious persecution in Nigeria,
describing the air strikes as a “first step” toward ending the violence.
He also criticized those opposing the military action,
accusing them of pandering to extremist sympathizers rather than acknowledging
the humanitarian objective of the operation.
