President Donald Trump has warned the Iranian regime that the United States could take “very strong action” if anti-government protesters are executed amid ongoing unrest in the country. His remarks came as the fate of 26-year-old protester Erfan Soltani drew international concern.

Speaking during an interview earlier this week, Trump said that if Iran goes ahead with executions it would face serious consequences, though he did not specify what measures the U.S. might take. “We will take very strong action,” he told reporters when asked to clarify his warning.

Iran has been rocked by widespread protests—initially driven by economic hardship and later transforming into demands for broader political change. Rights groups say thousands of demonstrators have been killed in the government’s crackdown.

The threatened executions triggered alarm abroad after activists reported that Soltani, who was detained during protests, was scheduled to be executed. However, Iranian judiciary officials have denied that he faces death, stating that his charges do not carry the death penalty and that “there are no plans” for his execution.

Following Trump’s warning, U.S. officials have reiterated that all options remain on the table if the killings of protesters continue—though diplomatic pressure and sanctions have so far been the primary tools used by Washington.

Iranian authorities have downplayed reports of imminent hangings, saying legal processes will follow domestic law and that no executions are planned simply for protest participation.

The situation has drawn international scrutiny, with neighbouring countries and Middle Eastern powers urging restraint and warning that military action could destabilise the region further.
