Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has issued a strong
warning to individuals aiding terrorist groups in Borno State, vowing that
informants and sympathisers of Boko Haram will be tracked down and brought to
justice.
The governor made the declaration during a statewide
broadcast on Thursday, March 19, where he addressed the recent rise in
terrorist attacks across parts of the state.
Zulum attributed the spike in violence to intensified
military operations in the region, which he said have put pressure on
insurgents. He warned those providing information, shelter, or logistical
support to terrorists that they would face severe consequences.
Describing such individuals as enemies of the state,
the governor stressed that their actions undermine peace and security, adding
that the government would no longer tolerate any form of collaboration with
insurgents.
He acknowledged that the resurgence of insecurity in
recent weeks is concerning but reassured residents that the overall security
situation remains under control. According to him, efforts are ongoing to
protect lives and property across the state.
Zulum highlighted the progress made over the past
seven years in restoring stability and rebuilding communities affected by
insurgency, noting that the government has consistently responded to security
challenges with decisive action.
He also emphasized that despite a reduction in attacks
in previous years, the insurgency is far from over, and more work is needed to
address its root causes.
The governor expressed condolences to families of
fallen soldiers, security personnel, and civilian volunteers who lost their
lives in the fight against terrorism. He also sympathised with civilians
affected by the crisis, commending their resilience and encouraging continued
unity and prayer in the face of ongoing challenges.
