Former Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has
refuted widespread rumours claiming he had passed away in a UK hospital after
battling a heart-related illness.
The false reports, which circulated on Friday,
November 14, suggested the former governor had succumbed to a prolonged health
crisis. However, Obiano released an official statement assuring the public that
he is alive and in excellent condition.
“My beloved Ndi Anambra, friends, and well-wishers,”
his statement began. “I woke to hear of a rumour making the rounds about my
wellbeing. Let me assure you personally: I am alive, hale, hearty, and in
excellent health. By the special grace of God, I am doing very well.”
He condemned the spread of misinformation, describing
it as unfortunate and unfounded.
“It is unfortunate that some individuals find joy in
spreading falsehood simply for reasons yet to be established. But we will
continue to rise above such mischief.”
Obiano also expressed gratitude to those who reached
out with concern.
“To everyone who called, sent messages, and prayed, I
sincerely appreciate your love and goodwill. Please disregard the rumour
entirely. We remain focused, grateful, and guided by God’s grace.”
Willie Obiano served as Governor of Anambra State
from 2014 to 2022, succeeding Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of
the Labour Party. Born on August 8, 1955, he hails from Aguleri in
Anambra East Local Government Area.
