The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to
officially confirm Justin Madugu as the substantive head coach of the Super
Falcons, following his remarkable success during his interim spell in
charge.
Madugu led Nigeria’s senior women’s national team to a
record-extending 10th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) title,
clinching a dramatic 3–2 victory over hosts Morocco in the final. His
tactical brilliance and calm leadership throughout the tournament also earned
him the Best Coach Award, fueling widespread calls for his permanent
appointment.
Despite the overwhelming support for Madugu, the NFF
has yet to make a formal announcement. The final decision lies with the NFF
Technical Committee, chaired by Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan, head of the Kano
State Football Association.
Speaking to BSN Sports Nigeria in Abuja, a
senior NFF official assured fans that the appointment will soon be confirmed:
“Coach Madugu will be announced as the substantive
head coach as soon as all pending issues are resolved. The responsibility lies
solely with the Technical Committee.”
Madugu’s rising profile received a further boost after
his Ballon d’Or nomination, an unprecedented recognition for a Nigerian
women’s football coach.
With the Super Falcons preparing for their next round
of international fixtures, many stakeholders and fans believe that confirming
Madugu’s appointment is crucial for ensuring stability and continuity in
leadership for the reigning African champions.
