Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading sustainable building
solutions company, has launched EcoCrete, Nigeria’s first low-carbon
Ready-Mix concrete. The innovative product delivers at least a 20% reduction in
CO? emissions compared to conventional CEM I concrete, while maintaining high
performance and reliability.
As part of the rollout, Lafarge’s Abuja Ready-Mix
(RMX) plant has been fully converted to 100% EcoCrete production, marking a
significant milestone in the company’s drive toward decarbonizing Nigeria’s
construction sector.
Speaking at the launch, Lafarge Africa’s Group
Managing Director/CEO, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the product reinforces
the company’s commitment to providing sustainable alternatives that empower
customers to “build better with less.”
“The introduction of EcoCrete is another
bold step in our mission to enable builders and our customers make smart
choices and support Nigeria’s transition to a greener economy. Just like our
ECOPlanet cement, EcoCrete is a game-changing innovation that combines
performance with reduced carbon footprint,” he said.
Head of Aggregates and Ready-Mix, Derek Williamson,
highlighted EcoCrete’s versatility across housing, commercial buildings, roads,
and bridges, noting that it allows contractors, engineers, and architects to
meet sustainability goals without sacrificing strength, durability, or
workability.
Emmanuel Ilaboya,
Lafarge Africa’s Head of Innovation and New Product Development, described the
solution as climate-smart:
“EcoCrete is more than just a product; it
is an innovation designed to address the urgent need for sustainable
construction. With EcoCrete, we provide a scalable alternative that
significantly lowers CO? emissions and supports Nigeria’s path towards sustainable
development.”
The launch builds on the success of EcoPlanet
Unicem and EcoPlanet Elephant cement, introduced in 2024 and 2025
respectively, further expanding Lafarge Africa’s sustainable product portfolio.
